Introduction

To explain in a nutshell, the general and the medical sterilization process usually consists of three phases, the first phase is the conditioning phase, the second phase is the actual sterilization phase, and the third phase is to bring the sterilizer into a safe state to open.  Apart from application in the sterilization of surgical instruments operations, the radiation process which is a subsection of radiation technology also plays a crucial role in fostering and ushering a sustainable development across the planet.

Method of medical sterilization:

One of the most common sterilizations of surgical instruments, methodology is steam or autoclave sterilization. In the autoclave medical sterilization process, the instruments are placed in a surgical pack and exposed to a stream under pressure. Autoclave tape or an indicator strip that acts as sterilization indicators are required to identify when the instruments have been sterilized. This method is among the most utilized way of medical sterilization.

There are other types of processes and raw materials used for the sterilization of surgical instruments such as ethylene oxide gas and glass bead sterilizers.

The ethylene oxide gas used for medical irradiation and sterilization purposes is extremely toxic. The ethylene oxide gas is specifically used to sterilize medical instruments that cannot withstand the high temperature and steam of an autoclave process.

When it comes to re-sterilizing the medical instruments during the surgical process, glass bead sterilizers are the best method of sterilization. In the glass bead sterilization process the central well filled with glass beads is heated to a very high temperature. After the removal of the blood and tissue from the instrument, the instrument is immediately placed inside the glass beads that are maintained at a high temperature for at least a few seconds. Prior to using the instrument for surgical purposes, the hot instrument tip is cooled by the surgeons and doctors.

Other than that, the plasma gas sterilization process is also widely accepted in the medical domain. In plasma gas sterilization and medical irradiation processes, low-temperature peroxide-based gas plasma is used inside the plasma chamber to kill the microorganisms on dental and medical equipment. This method is highly effective for killing spores, bacteria, fungi, and viruses present on the instrument. In this medical sterilization process, when vaporized hydrogen peroxide is added to the chamber, it immediately sterilizes the enclosed medical instrument or the equipment.

Another form of medical sterilization agent is Vapourized Hydrogen Peroxide. In this process, instead of plasma gas, vaporized hydrogen peroxide gas is used as a sterilizer. The humidity within the enclosure is first removed, and later, with the help generator, VHP is supplied until it reaches the ideal concentration required for sterilization of surgical instruments. All form of bacteria and other microorganisms that are present on the medical instrument gets removed effectively by the VHP vapor.
